Why Should The Church Be Concerned About The Environment?

ABOUT THIS COURSE

We have only one earth and it follows that we should be good stewards of its resources. But mankind, including Christians, has not had a good record with regard to environmental care. While many Christians are active environmental care programs such as recycling, waste management, and pollution prevention, others feel that Christians should focus more on evangelism and leave environmental care to those who are hired to tackle the issue.

But this ”distraction” approach runs counter to how Christians, and by extension the Church, should behave while we serve our earthly citizenship. Which approach is correct?

The objectives of this course are:

  • To understand the connection between stewardship of earthly resources and our roles as followers of Christ.
  • To better understand the connection between Christ’s teachings about the earth and its resources, and the roles Christians and the Church play when working with governments, NGOs and other bodies in approaching environmental concerns.

At the end of the course, you will know how to:

  • Work in fulfilling Christ’s commission to the Church through deeper involvement in environmental care
  • Discern the appropriate and correct approaches you should take with respect to environmental care
  • Share the message of environmental stewardship to other Christians
