Leadership Lessons From Ultramarathoners
ABOUT THIS COURSE
Ultramarathoners can teach us important lessons about leadership and this course will cover lessons that every one of us can learn from these ‘extreme athletes’. Corporate and other leaders have much more in common with marathon and ultramarathon runners than is commonly thought!
The objectives of this course are:
- To understand the connection between leadership and successful marathon and ultramarathon races
- To better understand the challenges and pitfalls faced by corporate leaders as they are compared to the problems and pitfalls faced by marathon and ultramarathon runners
At the end of the course, you will know how to:
- See leadership at a deeper level by using marathon running as a comparison
- Identify areas of improvement in leadership seen against preparation for marathons and ultramarathons
- Better understand the pitfalls and mistakes faced by corporate or organizational leaders

Mr Simon Lim is an avid marathon and ultramarathon runner. He has been the Executive Director, ILTC Sector since July 2021. He was Centre Manager of St Luke’s ElderCare before then.
During the course of his five-year tenure as President of HCA, Dr. Tan famously ran marathons to raise funds for the charity. In 2019, he ran a grueling 200km in 45 hours, raising more than $440,000 for HCA, before stepping down as its president.
Dr. Tan now continues to serve the community as a GP in a clinic in Beo Crescent. He is also the chairman of the Medifund committee of Jurong Health (Ng Teng Fong General Hospital).
